A new addition is coming to this year’s Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade for fans to enjoy for the holidays.
For the first time ever, a Minnie Mouse balloon will debut on Nov. 28 at the popular spectacle.
Minnie Mouse is getting a 60-foot balloon at the parade, joining other Disney characters who had balloons featured in the event. A Mickey Mouse and Pluto balloon debuted in 1934, Donald Duck’s balloon appeared in 1935 and Goofy’s in 1992.
“Fans of all ages will have the chance to welcome Minnie Mouse and her signature charm as she makes her debut in this year’s Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade,” Chrissy Anderson, vice president of North America Brand Commercialization at Disney Consumer Products, said in a statement in a Macy’s release.

Minnie Mouse made her debut in the 1928 Disney short film “Steamboat Willie” and she didn’t have her own cartoon series but appeared in 74 cartoons with Mickey Mouse and Pluto. Minnie has also been a staple at Disney parks, where 1986 was declared Minnie’s year, giving her much deserved recognition, per the Disney Fan Club website.
Will Coss, executive producer of Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, tells USA Today that he and other crews have to come up with entertainment to fill the three-plus hour parade, with Cass explaining to the news outlet that production on one year’s event can take months, if not more than a year.
The annual parade is a tradition for many fans and families, whether they attend the event in New York City or watch it on TV.
Information for this story was provided by USA Today and a Macy’s release. USA Today received comments from the executive producer of the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day parade about the addition of the Minnie Mouse balloon and the event.  This story was reported from Washington, D.C.
